The Maiden of the Rock: A Deep Dive into Xunantunich Mayan Ruins in Belize Belize is a land rich with history and adventure, and for those who love to explore, its ancient Mayan ruins offer a glimpse into a world both magnificent and mysterious. My wife, Linda, and our friends, Eamon and Athena, and I dedicated our third day in Belize to exploring one of the most magnificent of these sites: Xunantunich, or "The Maiden of the Rock." This post will serve as your comprehensive guide to this breathtaking archaeological site, sharing our firsthand experience and helping you prepare for your own unforgettable journey. The grounds are well-kept, which we noticed the moment we walked into the central plaza, and the site is much bigger than we anticipated. The Journey Begins with a Hand-Cranked Ferry Getting to Xunantunich is a part of the adventure in itself, and it’s a detail that adds to the site's remote and timeless feel. About the Authors

Welcome to Adventures with BeeGee, a blog dedicated to chronicling our personal journeys through the wild, urban, and beautiful landscapes of Texas and beyond. While our name honors our beloved original adventure buddy, our current trips are shared with my new co-pilot, Waffle.

  Jarrett (The Main Adventurer)

I'm the main contributor and the voice behind most of the adventures you'll read about here. My passion for the outdoors began long before this blog. After moving from North Carolina to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, I spent some time exploring new opportunities like fishing and bay kayaking. In 2016, I moved to Austin, which put me back in the heart of Texas's best hiking and mountain biking trails. I've also spent about a year in the Tucson area, exploring the rugged mountains of Arizona. My mission is to share our trips, recount the lessons we learn, and document every step of our journey. Our adventures are a bit of a mixed bag, from extreme backpacking to more relaxed camping trips and everything in between.

In Loving Memory of BeeGee (The Original Co-Pilot)

BeeGee at Hanging Rock Mountain

My most trusted companion and the original inspiration for this blog, BeeGee, passed away in June 2023. We teamed up when she was nearly 5 years. She was an Airedale terrier mix with boundless energy and a sweet, unwavering spirit. Her memory lives on in the name of our blog and in every trail we explore.

My new co-pilot, Waffle, is now the newest member of the team. He's a rescue dog with his own unique personality, and he's already teaching me that every adventure, no matter how big or small, is best shared with a friend. You'll see him featured in our most recent adventures, carrying on BeeGee's legacy one trail at a time.

Jack (The Extreme Enthusiast)

he is an animal lover

My younger brother, Jack, is a frequent contributor to our adventures. Based in the Austin area, he brings a love for extreme sports, including paintball, shooting, and skateboarding, as well as his passion for camping and hiking. His expertise often brings a new level of excitement to our trips.
